The Vale Resort’s junior golf team is celebrating success after winning the 2012 Wales Junior Inter-Club Championship in Builth Wells last week (Wednesday 31 October). The team, captained by Callum Yorston (17) and made up of Delon Hau (18), Mathew Rees (15), Tim Harry (15), Harrie Llewellyn (15), and Ryan Thomas (18), braved poor weather conditions to take on the best junior teams from across Wales over a tricky course at Builth Wells Golf Club. A hard-fought stroke play event saw the Vale victorious with a total score of 341, with each member of the team playing an outstanding game and securing the Vale’s reputation as one of the best junior teams in the country. The team will now go on to compete in the Home Nations Inter-Club Championships in Andalucia, Spain, in March 2013 which will be televised and shown across the world. Clive Coombs, Vale Resort golf operations manager said: “We are thrilled with the success of our junior team. We have heavily invested in junior golf development over the years with an Academy set up and are lucky to have some dedicated people who put many hours into working with these guys. Of course, the players still have to possess talent and we are lucky that a number of Wales’ best juniors choose to ply their trade with us. “ The Vale’s Junior Team is sponsored by the Principality Building Society, which is strongly committed to supporting grass roots sport in Wales. It is made up of players who have come through the Vale Resort’s Junior Golfing Academy, and has produced young golfing stars such as the European Amateur Championship Cup winner Rhys Pugh. James Wright, Marketing Director of Principality Building Society commented, ‘We are delighted to hear of the success of the Vale Junior team, this support is a perfect example of our commitment to grass root sport in Wales where children of all ages learn discipline, etiquette and a whole host of other skills. We wish the team continued success when they fly the flag for “The Vale and Principality” in Spain next year. As part of its commitment to supporting the golfing stars of the future, the Vale currently offers a special Junior Golfing Package. Open to young people aged between 8-18 years, it includes free access to the Vale’s Academy Coaching Scheme, a copy of the Academy’s coaching manual and over 50% off Junior Membership subscription fee for the first year.
