The Vale Resort, in Hensol, has been named as one of 65 identified venues in Wales and England selected for the approved list of potential Rugby World Cup 2015 team bases.
England Rugby 2015 received applications from more than 80 venues wanting to host the visiting teams for the global event.
However, only 65 venues met the team base criteria and will go onto the next stage of the selection process, in which up to 50 of the approved 65 will be confirmed for use during the six-week rugby tournament.
England Rugby 2015 will confirm the chosen bases following team visits and final selection in mid-2014.
The four-star Vale Resort met the Rugby World Cup 2015 team base criteria of offering indoor and outdoor training facilities, a gym, an indoor swimming pool as well as high-quality hotel facilities.
Paul Beddoe, sales and marketing director at the Vale Resort, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised as an approved team base for the Rugby World Cup 2015.
“At the Vale Resort, we are very proud of our range of top notch facilities we have on offer and our inclusion as an approved team base confirms this. Supporting global sporting clubs is at the heart of our offering with the Welsh Rugby Union, Cardiff City Football Club and the Cardiff Blues calling the Vale Resort their training-base home.
“We’re experienced in offering teams the best opportunity to prepare ahead of their fixtures, knowing what they need not only in terms of training but also in terms of dietary requirements and rest and relaxation to be in peak performance.
“We hosted the 2013 British and Irish Lions for their pre-tour boot camp and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic team in 2012, so we’re more than geared up to support the visiting nations in 2015.”
“We will continue to work with England Rugby 2015 as the list of facilities that will host the 20 competing nations when the eyes of the rugby world turn to Britain.”
England Rugby 2015 CEO, Debbie Jevans, said: "We are fortunate to have such a great number of excellent facilities available to host the teams in 2015. Rugby is at the heart of all our planning and it is vital that, in our role as the Organising Committee, we do all we ensure that we get the conditions absolutely right for the players to prepare for the game’s premier event. We will continue to work with the team mangers and look forward to confirming the final list of Team Bases by the middle of this year.”
The approved list of team bases have been selected based on match venue locations and their close proximity to other approved bases. The final list of bases will be confirmed mid-2014 following completion of team visits and selection.
