We are very proud to bring to your attention the news that one of our golf members, Kevin Bywater, has been given the huge honour of captaining the Welsh Parkinson’s golf team this year, in a home nations competition that will be held at The Belfry in October.

 

Kevin was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 8 years ago and obviously, the diagnosis came as a huge shock to him and completely changed his life. At the time of his diagnosis, he was working in and commuting to London every day, which he continued to do for a further 3 years until one day his wife decided the commute was too strenuous and dangerous for him, so she began planning a move to Wales so they could retire and enjoy a quieter life away from the hustle and bustle of the capital.  

 

When he eventually moved to Wales, he was in a very bad way in terms of slowness, poor balance, and generally high levels of pain. As many retirees do, Kevin decided to utilise his spare time and play more golf, up to 2-3 times a week in fact. He credits golf as being a major part of his improvement in both his physical and mental well-being and his friends can’t believe the difference in him since he retired and starting playing more golf.

 

In the last 2 years, Kevin has joined the Welsh Parkinson’s football team and he will be representing them in this year’s “Ray Kennedy Cup” but his biggest honour is being given the captaincy of the Welsh Parkinson’s golf team.
