Osteopaths use their hands to investigate the underlying causes of pain and to carry our treatment using a variety if manipulative techniques. These may include muscle and connective tissue Stretching, rhythmic joint movements or high velocity thrust techniques to improve the function of the joint. Gentle releasing techniques are often used particularly when treating children or elderly patients. Cranial approach also uses very gentle techniques to identify and correct mechanical disturbances and limitations, both in and around the joints for the scull.

John Palmer is our registered Osteopath
John Palmer DO BSc (Ost) Registered OsteopathJohn graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in osteopathy in 1997. After qualifying he spent three years working in private practice in multidisciplinary clinics in London, before moving to Scotland to work and study with renowned naturopath Jan De Vries, and his team of medical practitioners. During this time he studied naturopathy and acupuncture with Jan, and also dry needling techniques at the Royal Homeopathic Hospital in London.
For the past four years since moving back to Wales, John has worked in both private and NHS clinics, and has been practicing at the Vale for past two and a half years. He is currently the only osteopath in Wales to be working within the NHS, and is providing outpatient treatment at two GP surgeries in Swansea and Pontypridd.
His speciality is the treatment of back and neck pain, and he uses a holistic approach to patient care. He is currently studying for a post graduate diploma in Cranial Osteopathy.
