Refer a friend to join the Vale Golf Club before 31st January 2010 and you will receive one month's subscriptions FREE. Members 10% off
Simply present your membership card in the Golf Clubhouse or Vale Bar and receive 10% discount on food and beverage. Plus you can now deposit a cash amount onto your membership card and use it like a debit card. The advantage of this is that for every £100 you deposit on your card we will add an extra £5 FREE (which equates to 15% discount). Ask a member of staff for futher details.

Member Events

House and Entertainments Committee
The committee of the golf club re responsible for organising social events. A notice board with forthcoming events located in the Golf Club Bar. We arrange fun 'Social Golf' competitions on Bank Holidays as well as a variety of events throughout the year for members and friends.

• Examples of recent events organised included; a 'Race Night' , a Rules Quiz and one of the biggest occasions of the year – the Summer Ball – held in June in the Golf Club.
• Members are invited to welcome in the New Year at the Golf Club. Further details to follow on Club notice boards or contact a member of the committee.

For all the new members and those who haven't attended one of our organised events why not give them a try. We'd love to see you there.

Sunday Comptitions
The mens committee are eager to increase the number of members who enter the weekly Sunday competitions. On average 52 players enter the individual competition. If you have any suggestions that will assist the committee in improving attendance please email nwerner@vale-hotel.com

News

SWALEC Wales Challenge
The Vale Resort, would like to thank you and all the golf members for your support and hospitality during the recent SWALEC Wales Challenge and especially the help of all the volunteers who donated their time. Their commitment and endless hours of toil are greatly appreciated. This event could not have been a success without your and the many other volunteers who donated their time.

Rhys Davies thrilled the crowds when he beat Englishman James Morrison in a sudden-death play-off to win the SWALEC Wales Challenge after both players had tied on -2, 286.

The Welshman carded a final round score of -1, 71, the same score as Englishman Morrison, to finish one stroke ahead of Sweden's Andreas Högberg who stormed through the field with a four under par score of 68 for -1, 287. More results on the SWALEC Wales Challenge

Ladies Section

• Wales Ladies' Championships of Europe
  Congratulations to Rhian Wyn Thomas on winning the Medal for the top amateur at the recent S4/C Wales Ladies Championships of Europe at Royal St Davids. This is an excellent achievement.
  Congratulations also to Sahra Hassan on winning 1529 euros at the same event.
  Good luck to both Rhian and Sahra in their future competitions.

Veterans Section

• The Veterans are a group of about 60 people 55 years old and above who have dedicated tee times one day a week. They play all trophy competitions between April and September which include 6 medals and 6 competitions of various types.
• Seniors Open Day where all clubs in a dedicated area are invited to send players, at a price, to compete for prizes. This is fully supported by the Velvets Section who sell raffle tickets, collect money and serve refreshments.
• They organise 3 away days and although they do not play leagues they play friendly matches against 11 other clubs each year.
• Our second away day on 15th July at the Dewstow Golf Club was very successful and well attended and a good day was enjoyed by all. We look forward to our final away day at the Monmouthshire Golf Course on 16th September. All Vale members of 55 years and over are welcome to join in and take part in our away days and should contact Norman Fone to reserve a place.
• On 30th June we entertained Celtic Manor at home. This was a new fixture and we welcomed the opportunity to show off our home course to a new club. On 13th August Celtic Manor returned our hospitality when we were guests at their home course. The Roman Road Course was in fine condition and an excellent day's golf was enjoyed by all. The opportunity to foster relations with a new club was welcomed

Men's Committee Information

• Vale Golf Finals - Tom Harry defeats defending champion Dave Clifford in the Men's event. Women's championship won by Claire Huish. WELL DONE BOTH.
• The Wayfareres have successfully defended their title as league winners for the 3rd successive time. This feat has not been previously achieved in the history of the league and we applaud the efforts of all the members that participated in the historic hat-trick.
